Speakers from the Kern County, California DHS discuss the county’s use of The Work Number to allow workers to search for and receive employment and income data instantly. A brief how-to about using The Work Number is presented. The Kern County speakers explain how the instant verification service was tested with a pilot program, how workers responded to the pilot program, and the advantages of using The Work Number’s eXpress service.

Other methods of accessing the data on The Work Number are discussed using examples from other agencies including the New York OTDA and a large user which has integrated The Work Number with its own system. In addition, the “batch” method for accessing The Work Number is explained, in which an agency sends a data file to be run against The Work Number overnight.
