1. I am having difficulties verifying on an employee of the state of California.
The State of California is an employer who utilizes the “Other ID Option” rather than an employee's Social Security Number. Please request this verification by logging in at www.theworknumber.com/go. Then select the "Other ID Option" listed right below the Social Security Number field. Next, enter the employee's ID as a 10-digit number in the following order of the last 6 digits of his/her SSN + the 2-digit month and 2-digit day of his/her date of birth. You will then be able to view the verification on your screen.

2. I am trying to obtain a record on a military employee and I'm having difficulties.
The Work Number currently maintains records for Civilian Employees for the Department of Defense. Active military records are not currently maintained by The Work Number. Please contact the Human Resources department for any Active Military records.

5. How do I order a past VOE/VOI with the reference number?
You are able to audit a previously ordered verification. Simply go to www.theworknumber.com/go. After logging in, select "Past Verification" from the left-side navigation menu. You will be prompted for the employee's SSN and the Reference Number. After confirming the data that you entered, you will see the verification and you can print it from your desktop.

7. How do I order a verification?
To order a verification, please go to www.theworknumber.com/go. Log in with your Username and Password. You will be asked for the employee's Social Security Number and the 5-digit employer code. After confirming the data that was entered, you can view and print the verification from your desktop.
If you do not already have a Username and Password, please select "“Are you a New User?” beneath the Login box and you will be taken to the service plans page where you can select the best plan for your company. You also have the option to pay using a credit card.

8. I can't find my code on the list?
You, the verifier, do not have a Employer code. The Employer (Company) Code is a 5-digit code that corresponds to the employee’s place of employment. For example, if the employee works at Wal-Mart, you would search the Participating Employers list found at www.theworknumber.com/quicklist and see that the code for Wal-Mart is 10108. To order a verification, please go to www.theworknumber.com/go.
