Q. I am being asked for a Salary Key for the IRS or LOC and I only want the employment history not income.
Both the IRS (Employer Code 10114) and the Library of Congress (Employer Code 10745) require a salary key regardless of the type of verification you are requesting and even if you do not need to know the employee’s income. This salary key requirement was put in place at the request of the employer for added security measures.
Please obtain a salary key from the employee in order to obtain an employment verification.

Q. Do I need anything special to access an income verification?
The Work Number requires that verifiers have employee authorization to access income information. This allows the employee control over who has the ability to pull their income. A Salary Key is one form of employee authorization.

Q. What's a Salary Key? How do I get one?
A salary key is one way to receive authorization to pull an income verification for an individual’s record on The Work Number. For security reasons, the salary key is designed for one time use only. If a key is not working, then it has most likely expired or it has been used once before, you would need a new salary key in this situation. If the applicant requires assistance in setting up the salary key, please instruct him/her to contact the Client Service Center at 1-800-996-7566. Representatives are available Monday – Friday, 7am-8pm CST.
