Q. What is The Work Number® ?
A. The Work Number is an automated service providing employees control over common human resource and payroll functions. The Work Number's most popular feature is its employment and income verification service. It is used by lenders, property managers, pre-employment screeners, and others who need to verify someone's employment status and sometimes, his or her income as well. Typically, verifications are required when a person applies for a loan or public aid, leases an apartment, updates their immigration status, or applies for a job.
Q. Does The Work Number® Offer Services Other Than Employment and Income Verification?
The Work Number is a service of TALX Corporation and TALX offers two additional features within The Work Number family of services. Our W-2 eXpress solution gives employees the ability to get their W-2 online and perform other W-2 management functions. ePayroll (Paperless Pay) allows employees to get an online pay stub and control other routine payroll services like changes to W-4 withholding allowances and direct deposit as. Since these are optional features, your personal account may not have all of the additional services described.
Q. How Do I Use The Work Number®?
A. That's easy. When an employer decides to use The Work Number, we set up a secure account for each employee. All of the features that your employer (or former employer) has decided to offer are already set up. You just need to login by entering your employer's name, or code if you know it, in the login box at the top of this page.
Q. What Information Does a Lender or Other Verifier Get From The Work Number?
A. The Work Number provides different "types" of verifications for different purposes. For example, if you are looking for a job, your future employer might want to check your past employment while a mortgage lender will typically need to verify your income before giving you a loan. And, if you applied for public aid from a social service agency, they need a little different type of information still. The Work Number can meet each of those needs.
Q. Can Just Anyone Get My Income Information from The Work Number?
A. No. You have to give someone permission to get your income information from the service. Giving permission is an easy process. You can do it here, online, in your personal secure account or by using any touch-tone telephone. Review our "how to" page for step-by-step instructions.
Q. Is The Work Number secure?
A. Yes. We use 128-bit SSL encryption in all of the account areas of our site where your personal information is being exchanged with our computers. In addition, we have a detailed privacy policy that tells you what, and, more importantly, what we do not do with information we gather while you are on our web sites.
We also use very stringent data security standards and physical building security to protect the computer equipment and data center facility that runs our service.
But, the most obvious examples of our commitment to security may be the many security conscious employers from both the public and private sectors that choose The Work Number as a service for their employees.
